San Mateo Optometrist Named Bay Area Businesswoman of the Year.
San Mateo eye doctor, Marcie Arnesty-Olian, is being honored in San Francisco on September 23, as part of the nationally proclaimed American Business Woman's Day.
According to local organizers of the American Business Woman's Association (ABWA), Dr. Arnesty-Olian was selected along with two other women from the community-at-large by ABWA's Bay Area chapters "for outstanding achievements in business and contributions to others." She will receive this honor at ABWA's annual awards luncheon at the St. Francis Yacht Club, where members will hear firsthand about her "years of hard work, struggles and successes," said Michele Moir, ABWA member and past chapter president.
Dr. Arnesty-Olian is the owner of Borel Eye Doctors established in San Mateo's Borel Square since 1987, and lives in San Carlos. She is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz and the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry. Throughout her career Dr. Arnesty-Olian has donated her services to many local organizations such as Samaritan House in San Mateo, as well as provided vision care to the needy in Central America, Africa, and the South Pacific.
The ABWA is a national working women's organization with more than 1200 chapters in all 50 states. It is the fourth largest organization for businesswomen in the United States. Its mission is "to provide for women of diverse occupations the opportunity to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition."
ABWA's prime focus, other than fostering the development of its members, is providing scholarships. Since its founding in 1949, ABWA has granted almost $50 million in scholarships.
